Eternal Circle, 2008 - 2019
16mm film
Run-time: 45 minutes
(6-minute excerpt above)
A 16mm film made over more than a decade, Eternal Circle features short clips of abstract compositions, flashes of pure color, and long-take shots of landscape imagery sourced from the United States and Europe. The film’s visuals, often accompanied by a live-performed script and score, explore the tenuous connections and cyclical rhythms shared by past and present cultures and one person’s memory and a collective culture’s understanding.
The sky expands and contracts. A rocky shore comes forward, a watery horizon flows beyond, an Irish bog sinks deeper. A barely there Etruscan ruins bleed into an immense Medieval fortress. A modern vacation vista melts into an ancient sunset. All the while, a lone drummer marks time forgone and forthcoming— the eternal circle.
”Eternal Circle” is a singular work; however, it is often projected with an original, live-performed score as part of Academy Records’ performative installation, “Amplified Heat”.
